18 & 19th Jan - rach

18th

Today we started creating the set and props for Rent. We created a homeless den under the scaffolding DSL by hanging clothes and fabric up, with tyres and bins of rubbish and newspaper on the ground. People constructed cell phones out of cardboard boxes for our characters to imitate the old fashion styled mobiles. Me and Kim spray painted dolls silver and decorated them with sequins to be hung behind the stage for Maureens protest, to create a whacky bizarre vibe similar to Maureen's protest performance. In the script there is also a christmas tree, which we deecided to make out of silver sprayed tyres. This was effective as it reminds us of the rough, poor urban area Rent is set in, making the tyres as a Christmas tree entirely appropriate. We also had the fairy lights tied up which really completed the set made made it magical.

19th

Today we had a tech dress rehearsal and had to bring in all our costumes and make sure the props table was organised. Me and Bryleah shared parts of each other's costumes for Joanne:

Rent/Tango Maureen/We're Okay/Santa Fe/La Vie Boheme

  • white shirt
  • braces
  • tie
  • blazer
  • black trousers
  • black shoes
  • beige button coat
Seasons Of Love/Happy New Year/Take Me Or Leave/Without You/I'll Cover You/Goodbye Love
  • red blazer
  • black dress
  • tights
  • boots/character shoes
Finale
  • beige button coat
  • scarf

I also had prepared my costumes for my other characters:

Mrs Jefferson

  • Turtleneck long sleeve top
  • skirt & tights
  • boots
Pam
  • leggings
  • vest top
  • bomber jacket
The tech rehearsal went much better with the accompaniment and ran much smooher without barely and stops. For Tango Maureen, I decided I'm going to bring on the mic and amp and set it up rather than Luke helping me to bring it out before, otherwise it wouldn't mak sens for him to return and act like he's just seen me for the first time.
