8th jan - first scaff day

Today we did a run of Act 2 offcast. This is the first time we have seen the actual scaffolding, and can now see the sizing and space it takes up. We now could begin to adapt our production in terms of spacing for the scaffolding, and start doing full run throughs using it.

We had to adjust some of the scene's blocking due to the new set design, for example in 'Life support' we first off positioned ourselves on the scaff stairs, however changed it to the floor as we would be obstructing Mimi in the following scene 'Out Tonight', where she starts at the top and makes her way down. We have also decided to be stationary between 'Life Support' and 'Will I' so we don't cause distrurbance in the inbetween scenes and songs. The space is definitly more enclosed and liimited now that we have the rows if seating placed out, so we have to be very spatially aware in scenes like 'Rent' and La Vie Boheme' where t's very chaotic and everyone's on stage. We also need to be careful not to block the audiences view at times, for example in Life support we have slightly separated our chairs to create gap views for the seating our group circle is right infront of, so they can see the following scenes before we exit after 'Will I'.

Today has been very beneficial as the inclusion of the scaffolding is making the production come together and I am feeling the urban atmosphere of the New York streets. Once we have the rest of the set into place we will really be able to connect and envision our characters in the setting.
